Hayward Perflex D.E. Filters - 1 Year Warranty

Diatomaceous Earth Filter System with Bump Technology

Hayward Perflex® D.E. (Diatomaceous Earth) Filters are renowned for providing crystal clear, sparkling pool water by removing microscopic dust and pollen. Their unique "bump" technology and patented Flex-Tube™ design allow for extended filter cycles and cleaning without traditional backwashing, conserving water and pool chemicals. Perflex filters are an excellent choice for achieving the highest water quality with operational efficiency, suitable for many above-ground and smaller in-ground pools.

  • Superior Water Clarity: D.E. filtration captures particles as small as one or two microns for exceptionally clean and clear water.
  • Extended Filter Cycles: Patented Flex-Tube™ design allows D.E. powder to be regenerated and reused multiple times, extending the period between cleanings.
  • Water Conservation: Cleans without backwashing, saving hundreds of gallons of chemically treated pool water annually.
  • "Bump" Technology: Exclusive bump handle activates a mechanism that causes the Flex-Tubes to clean themselves of dirt and D.E. powder, refreshing the filter surface.
  • Durable Construction: Heavy-duty filter tank is injection-molded of high-strength, corrosion-proof material (often Duralon™) for dependable performance.

Key features and operational notes for Hayward Perflex® D.E. Filters:

  • Flex-Tube™ System: Consists of a series of flexible tubes coated with D.E. powder. The "bump" action flexes these tubes, causing the D.E. cake (with trapped dirt) to fall off and settle, while a portion of the D.E. then re-coats the tubes for a new cycle.
  • Regeneration ("Bumping"): When filter pressure rises (indicating it's dirty), the bump handle is used (pump off) to dislodge and resettle the D.E., extending the filter cycle. This can typically be done several times before the D.E. needs to be completely replaced.
  • Cleaning Process: When bumping no longer restores flow/lowers pressure, the filter is drained, and the used D.E. and accumulated dirt are flushed out. New D.E. is then added to the system via the skimmer.
  • Self-Venting Design: Many models automatically expel any air that may be present in the system, maintaining filtration efficiency.
  • Integral Check Valve: Often included to prevent system backflow when the pump is off, helping to keep D.E. on the Flex-Tubes.
  • Pressure Gauge/Service Port: Combination pressure gauge and threaded inspection/service port is easy to read and access for monitoring filter status.

⚠️ Safety & Compliance Notes

Filter Operates Under Pressure:

  • Always turn off the pump and relieve all system pressure by opening the air relief mechanism on the filter before servicing, bumping, or draining the filter.
  • Never operate or test the filtration system at pressures exceeding the filter's maximum stated operating pressure (typically around 30 PSI for Perflex, check your model).
  • Ensure the filter lid/clamp is properly secured before starting the pump. Stand clear during system start-up.

Proper Installation & Use:

  • Installation should be performed by a qualified individual or pool professional in accordance with all applicable local codes and ordinances.
  • Use only Diatomaceous Earth (D.E.) filter powder as specified by Hayward for your model. Ensure proper D.E. coating of Flex-Tubes after cleaning and recharging.
  • Follow the "bump" procedure as outlined in the owner's manual; do not over-bump or force the handle.

Electrical Safety (Pool System):

  • Always disconnect electrical power to the pool pump at the circuit breaker before servicing the filter.
